Cambodian, Thai Business Matching Event Encourages Bilateral Trade and Investment

Phnom Penh, April 30, 2024 — The recently concluded Cambodian-Thai Business Matching 2023, organized by the Cambodia Youth Entrepreneurs Association for Development (CYEAD), brought together business leaders, government officials, and entrepreneurs from both countries. The event, held on October 28, 2023, aimed to foster stronger economic ties and explore investment opportunities.

During the opening ceremony, Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul commended CYEAD for its efforts in promoting bilateral trade and investment. She emphasized Cambodia’s readiness to welcome Thai entrepreneurs and investors, offering them a conducive environment to explore investment projects, collaborations, and the benefits of regional trade agreements. Nimul reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to facilitating investment and supporting private sector enterprises.

CYEAD President Hong Chhengchhun highlighted the forum’s pivotal role in driving socio-economic progress. The business matching program provided a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs from both nations to establish networks, exchange ideas, and identify potential business partners. Chhengchhun expressed optimism that the event would strengthen Cambodian-Thai relations and contribute to Cambodia’s development.

The Cambodian embassy in Bangkok played a crucial role in supporting Thai investors interested in investing in Cambodia. The event received significant backing from both governments, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing economic cooperation.

In the first nine months of 2023, trade between Cambodia and Thailand exceeded $2.8 billion, despite an 18% decline. Cambodia’s exports to Thailand reached over $652 million, while imports from Thailand totaled more than $2.17 billion. The business matching event aims to reverse this trend and foster greater collaboration among Asian nations.

CYEAD is already gearing up for its next initiative—the Cambodia-Japan Business Matching Forum—which promises to further broaden business collaboration in the region.
